The Guy Debord Club of Houston is an educational/cultural group devoted to advancing a critical discussion by any means necessary – what do we make of the modern condition of humanity, spectacular as it is grotesque, and how do we endeavor to subvert and overthrow it?
Houston is the city of the spectacle, where the modern and totalitizing mode of existence prevails. All of its life presents itself as the immense accumulation of misery. We are a city unified by our separations, a war-torn civilization on a train to oblivion, we are that destination. They do not come here to film their movies, they do not come here for peace. They come here for the last standing bastion of capital against neo-liberal stagnation, to thrive off of the cheap and accessible relations of production and consumption. They want a “world city” as a center of international exploitation. They have come for war.

"I believe truth has only one face, that of a violent contradiction"
-Georges Bataille

We want take the totality of our time and our setting, this late-capitalist southern urban life and all of us its walking contradictions, and center it on culture. The space between our dreams and reality, the dream where we stop the train, and the reality where the train stops us. We want expressions of our dreams, that declare war on a reality of war; a new war on our own terms. We find as individuals though, we are defeated, alienated and separated. It is imperative that we wage our war not at the point of our separations, but with the world of separation itself. “Culture” is where we begin this project.
Let's see in ourselves more than mere commentators and thinkers, and yet even more than actors and fighters. We are dreamers, the union of the creator and the destroyer. With the world of magnificant creation and destruction at our fingertips, the totality is no match for the songs we will sing at mountaintops. We will not stop at making history, we will change the way history is made.
